I agree that Sab's character is an appealing one. I think that the fact that he has so many different, complex characteristics and can't be categorized makes him intriguing as well as the novel. Also I think that the fact that Carlotta doesn't truly appreciate Sab until the end makes him all the more appealing. The whole time the readers want Carlotta to realize the things about Sab that the readers themselves have already discovered. The author allows the readers to be privy to both Sab's and Carlotta's thoughts and internal feelings but not for the two characters to gain insight about each other. Throughout the whole story I found myself wishing Carlotta could overhear Sab's thoughts or understand him more because they both seem to have similar souls yet different social statuses.
